Meditation and Pranayama course with Stephen Thomas - FULLY BOOKED
Starting September 1, 2010 AIRYOGA guest teacher Stephen Thomas invites you to a progressive course in Meditation and Pranayama. The course consists of 5 consecutive 75 minutes classes of practice and study.
The connection to our breath in pranayama and meditation connects us to our inner self - the essential nature of our being! These practices offer us lenses and tools to cleanse our inner mirror. They reflect the happenings of our inner and outer environments.
In this course participants will explore the preparations and execution of a solid pranayama and meditation practice, working with silent mantras, nadi balancing and cleansing and proper bandha control. These methods are used to activate and manipulate the prana or kundalini shakti (the life force within us). This work will be combined with a more detailed look at some inner gazing techniques for concentration, which ultimately leads to a meditative state. Meditation is an invaluable tool for deepening our yoga, and quickly and effectively improving our mental and physical health.
Stephen Thomas is a senior international yoga teacher. He leads Teacher Trainings, Workshops and Immersions across Asia and Europe. His teaching is deeply rooted in the traditional Yoga practices of asana, pranayama, and meditation. His philosophical background is influenced by studies in the Classical systems of Yoga Philosophy as well as Tibetan Buddhism and Tantra, enriching and informing his personal approach.
Stephen presents Yoga in its classical form, directly from lineage. In his teaching, he encourages a synthesis of physical effort (asana, cleansing kriyas, pranayama, etc.), with the study of sanskrit, chanting, meditation and devotion. Integrating these deep practices into the daily spectrum of one’s life is a central theme of his work. Stephen studies directly with O.P. Tiwari of Kaivalyadham, India and continues to evolve his knowledge in the fields of pranayama, therapy, healing, and Ayurveda. This lineage is one of the few living sources of authentic pranayama available. He has completed Advanced Pranayama Studies with Tiwari and continues to dedicate his personal practice and work to promoting health and transformation through this method of yoga. He has also undertaken a 3-year study of Yoga Philosophy with the scholar and author, Georg Feuerstein.
Stephen embodies the spirit of joy, respect and deep gratitude for those who have influenced him over the years, including, Sri.K. Patthabi Jois, B.K.S. Iyengar, Richard Freeman, Aadil Palkhivala, Paul Dallaghan and Patrick Creelman.

Restorative Yoga Workshop with Claudia Garati
On Saturday, September 25, 2010 AIRYOGA teacher Claudia Garati invites all to her 3-hour workshop to experience the restorative aspects of Yoga on body, mind and spirit. Come celebrate a lat "Equinox for yourself" with a rejuvenating practice that allows for stillness and deep relaxation.
One of the most beneficial aspects of a yoga practice is learning how to rest. Restorative Yoga takes us deep inside to connect with our own creativity and helps heal the effects of chronic stress.
This workshop will include a bit of physical practice, and will primarily focus on the restorative aspects of yoga - breath, awareness, and kindness to harmonize body, breath, mind and spirit.
Most of the postures (asanas) will be done in a passive manner with the support of blankets, blocks and other props. You will have an opportunity to linger peacefully in these soothing and well-supported poses with gentle hands-on adjustments, candle-light and other goodies.
Claudia Garati grew up in Switzerland. She started practicing Hatha Yoga in 2000. After moving to New York, she enrolled in YogaWorks certified 500-hour Teacher Training program and completed it as a certified yoga instructor (Yoga Alliance RYT500). Claudia further studied in New York and San Francisco with ISHTA Yoga founder Alan Finger, Mark Whitwell, Bridget Shields, and with Restorative Senior Teacher Sara Tirner. After 3 years in the US Claudia moved back to Switzerland in 2008. Since then she teaches Hatha- and Restorative Yoga classes at AIRYOGA Zurich.
To Claudia yoga means both statics and dynamics, which are energetically in balance. In her classes she focuses on proper alignment to guarantee both safety and freedom. Her aim as a teacher is to allow the students to find their breath and consequently become present in each asana and in the moment.
The Restorative Yoga Workshop with Claudia Garati will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 from 2:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at AIRYOGA, Oberdorfstrasse 2, 8001 Zurich.

Advanced Vinyasa Yoga Workshop with Claire Dalloz
On Saturday afternoon, October 2, 2010 former AIRYOGA teacher Claire Dalloz will invite you to a 3-hour Vinyasa Yoga workshop for advanced Yoga practitioners.
This is not a dress rehearsal – this is the real thing!“ Learn to live your life intensely moment to moment on and off your mat.
This 3 hour workshop aims to use various yoga techniques (meditation, pranayama, asana) to intensify your life experience and to take your personal yoga practice on to new dimensions.
Claire teaches a blend of powerful vinyasa yoga and Iyengar style guiding the practitioner to experience his/her physical and mental edge.
Claire Dalloz was brought up in Nigeria, West Africa. Her childhood was one of freedom and movement, spent mostly outdoors close to nature. She discovered Hatha Yoga in 1984 during her studies at Bath University in England, and rediscovered in its practice this sense of liberty, movement and proximity to nature that she had enjoyed as a child. She studied Sivananda Yoga in New York and Iyengar Yoga in England.
In the 90’s, on returning back to Switzerland, Claire went to her first Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga class taught by Bruno Dietziker. She was so overawed by this practice that she first started teaching small groups at home and later at Yoga Works and AIRYOGA in Zurich, where she also led Vinyasa Flow classes. In 2005 she successfully completed an International Teacher Training course in Zurich, under the professional guidance of Clive Radda, Glenn Ceresoli (a renowned Iyengar Yoga teacher) and Lance Schuler. Claire regularly visits workshops in Switzerland and abroad with international yogis such as Glenn Ceresoli, Shiva Rea, Dharma Mittra, Anna Forrest, David Swenson, amongst others, and had the privilege of joining a week’s workshop with Sri Pattabhi Jois in London in 2003.
Claire also worked as a teacher, organizer and manager of yoga and fitness. She holds a diploma in the US from AFAA, and is also a trained medical massage therapist.
For more information on Claire Dalloz please also visit www.clairedalloz.ch.
The Vinyasa Yoga Workshop with Claire Dalloz will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 2:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at AIRYOGA, Oberdorfstrasse 2, 8001 Zürich.
We will commence the afternoon with an hour’s sitting practice – time to connect within, awaken your awareness to the moment and create stillness in the mind. We will practice some pranayama techniques to boost the vital body, the pranamaya Kosha, and to bring balance to the main nadis (energy channels) ida and pingala. This will be followed by a dynamic vinyasa practice blending strength, balance, flexibility and particularly endurance.
This workshop is aimed at yoga practitioners with an advanced yoga practice.
Claire teaches in German and English.
The cost is Fr. 90.-.
Reservations please via e-mail to zuerich@airyoga.com. Space is limited.

Burn Out, Stress and Yoga – Breathe, Relax, Transform
On Saturday afternoon, October 9, 2010 AIRYOGA instructor Adrian Wirth will adress the theme Burn Out and Stress from a yogic perspective, and offer healthier and more conscious ways to confront the challenges of daily life.
Yoga is a holistic science of human nature, which teaches us how we can better understand our bodies and minds. By observing our fears, expectations and desires, it is possible to recognize and transform unhealthy and unsustainable patterns of behavior.
In this three-hour long workshop, we will learn and practice simple breathing techniques and bodily exercises so that deep relaxation on the bodily and mental levels can be experienced. The participants will receive written documentation so they can practice the exercises at home. The full benefits of the “Yoga Tools” learned will be realized through regular practice and implementation in everyday life.
After completing his studies in Environmental Science, Adrian Wirth increasingly grappled with the importance of a person's mind and psyche for the health of the individual. His knowledge of the natural sciences flow into his work, as well as personal experience from yoga, Buddhist meditation and from shamanic traditions. An accurate and attentive practice is important for him, while maintaining a sense of humor. Adrian has been following the yogic path since 2002 and teaches yoga at the university as well as secondary schools.
More information about Adrian can be found here...

Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 2:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.: Shakti Solar Flow – Saraswati and Lakshmi Sadhana
This practice serves as an initiation – just as we tune an instrument before we play it, we also tune our bodies and mind to our innermost vibration, our essence. We use the symbolism of the Goddess Saraswati „The essence of the real Self“, „The Flowing One“ to connect to our inner rhythms and personal truths. In Hinduism, Saraswati is venerated as a symbol for wisdom, creativity, music, and the arts. The symbolism for the Goddess Lakshmi lead us to harmony, well-being, and abundance.
Elements: Jala (water), Vayu (air) and Akasha (aether).
Sadhana focus: creative flows, backbends and heart-openers, pranayama, meditation, mudra, and mantra.
Sunday, October 24, 2010 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Shakti Solar Flow – Durga Sadhana: Diving into fire – The path to perfection
The Goddess Durga, depicted riding a tiger, is one of the most popular deities in Hinduism. In Tantrism she is venerated as the embodiment of Shakti (the creative energy of Shiva). The tiger is a symbolic fire animal. Fire symbolizes the divine spark of creativity, the source of life on earth. Through the symbolism and wisdom of the Goddess Durga we dedicate ourselves to a fire-inspired Sadhana, a transformation, which mirrors various aspects of our Selves and subsequently our own perfection.
Elements: Agni (fire), Prithvi (earth) and Akasha (aether)
Sadhana focus: creative flows, arm balances and standing poses, connecting asanas, pranayama, meditation, mudra, and mantra.
„Kein Weg ist höher zu erachten als jener,
der sich nicht scheut, in die Wirklichkeit einzutauchen.
Ausserhalb der Wirklichkeit gibt es keine Spur des Absoluten.“
Lalita Devi
The workshop is suitable for all levels, although basic knowledge is recommended.
Each session can also be attended individually.
The workshop is equally suitable for men and women, although the symbolism used is that of the Goddess.
Christine teaches in German and English.
The cost is: Fr. 80.- per session (2,5 Stunden) Fr. 80.-; or Fr. 150.- for both sessions.
Participation is limited. Please register via e-mail to zuerich@airyoga.com.
