WORKSHOPS

Prana Flow Workshop with Christine May
Christine May – senior assistant to the famous yoga teacher Shiva Rea and head teacher of AIRYOGA Munich – welcomes you to an energetic Prana Flow workshop on February 4 and 5, 2012. During two Rasa Vinyasa Prana Flow Sessions we will explore three different emotional states called “Rasas”.

Rasa is characterized as “sap, taste, essence or emotional state”. Rasa also means the sap or the inspiration of life. The term is already to be found in the Rig Veda and in the Upanishads. Tantric philosophy distinguishes between 9 Rasas, which are described as moods or emotions.
A masterpiece on Indian dance, the Natya Shastra (science of dance) speaks of 8 Rasas, which play a crucial role in classical Indian dance, drama and music. Yoga and Ayurveda consider Rasa our inner sap, which nourishes our essence and brings us joy, surrender and long life.

During this energetic Prana Flow workshop we will immerse ourselves in three different Bhavanas/moods/emotional states: Vira Rasa (potency, power, force), Sringara Rasa (love, sensuality and feeling) and Shanti Rasa (harmony, silence and inner peace).

Christine May is head teacher of AIRYOGA in Munich and one of the senior teachers of the creative and dynamic prana flow yoga, a derivative of Vinyasa Flow yoga by Shiva Rea as well as a transformative fusion of Hatha Yoga, Tantra and Ayurveda.
Christine has been teaching in well-known yoga studios in California, Asia and Europe for over 11 years. She also teaches Prana Flow Teacher Training modules, workshops and retreats. Attentive and loving dedication to her students and yoga itself is the main characteristic of her teaching style.
Since 2007 Christine has been directing the 200-hours Yoga Alliance Teacher Training at AIRYOGA Zurich and Munich, and since 2010 also the training on the island of Corfu. So far she has instructed more than 250 yoga teachers. Additionally, she is also in charge of individual modules of the 300-hours Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in Munich (Yoga Alliance certified).
Christine’s own established schooling includes various trainings in her long-time adopted hometown Los Angeles, Shiva Rea’s 500-hours Yoga Alliance and a formation in India.
For more information please also see www.christinemay.de

The Prana Flow Workshop with Christine May will be held at AIRYOGA, Fabrikstrasse 10, 8005 Zurich on the following days:

Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Rasa Vinyasa Prana Flow Session 1: Vira and Shanti Rasa
As we practice the sequence inspired by Vira Rasa we develop our inherent potential of courage, clarity and focus through pranayama, creative, dynamic and challenging vinyasas as well as through Kriyas and vigorous warriors and arm balances.
Courage is essential for our own development on any plane. It provides us with the clarity to take those steps that are important for us. Restorative asanas, pranayama, chanting and meditation lead us into Shanti Rasa, the state of inner peace and stillness.
By gazing at an energized, very determined person that cannot be influenced nor surprised nor swayed, the mood for Vira is born. Natya Shastra VI. 46-76

Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Rasa Vinyasa Prana Flow Session 2: Sringara and Shanti Rasa
A heart-opening, flowing Prana Flow sequence, prana-filled vinyasas, some chanting and the prime focus on Bhakti, devotion - these are the most important elements for this Sringara Rasa inspired practice.
Sringara Rasa arises when we see beauty, when we smell flowers, hear beautiful music or poetry or when we see the people that we love. With some restorative asanas, pranayama and meditation we close the practice of Shanti Rasa, the state of inner peace and silence

The workshop is suitable for all levels, although basic knowledge is recommended.
Each session can also be attended individually.

Christine teaches in German and English.

The cost is: Fr. 80.- per session (2,5 hours); or Fr. 150.- for both sessions.

Participation is limited. Please register via e-mail to zuerich@airyoga.com

Yin Yoga and Insight Meditation with Josh Summers from the US
Find the missing peace with Josh Summers - a licensed acupuncturist, a yoga instructor and a mindfulness consultant – in his unique workshop on February 25, and 26, 2012.

The spiritual journey promises a movement from noise to silence, from agitation to calm, from complexity to simplicity. But, ultimately, it is our inner orientation to that journey, not the practices themselves, that determines whether or not we will reach our destination.
Within the practices of Yin Yoga and Buddhist Insight Meditation, Josh will offer clear guidance for directing one's attention and energy towards the serenity and peace in the here and now regardless of the chaos in the world around or within you.

Yin Yoga is a complementary yoga practice to the more dynamic and invigorating yoga styles that are predominant today. In Yin Yoga, floor postures are held passively for several minutes in order to access a safe and positive 'stress' on the deep layers of connective tissue in the body. Yin Yoga prepares both the body and the mind for deeper experiences in meditation. This practice is appropriate for students of all levels.

Josh Summers is a licensed acupuncturist, a yoga instructor and a mindfulness consultant. He recently co-authored, The Buddha's Playbook: Strategies for Enlightened Livign.
Josh began studying yoga in the early nineties with a gifted Iyengar yoga teacher in New York City named James Murphy. Since then he has spent several years living abroad in India, Taiwan and Burma where he has studied both yoga and meditation. As his interest in vipassana or insight meditation has developed, so too has his interest in more contemplative forms of yoga practice. With a professional background in Oriental Medicine and a personal passion for the dharma, Josh fell in love with Yin Yoga as a beautiful synthesis of these two interests.
Josh's classes emphasize safe alignment, the cultivation of moment-to-moment awareness and the potential for freedom in the here and now. For more information on Josh Summers please also see www.joshsummers.net

The Yin Yoga workshop with Josh Summers will take place from February 25, to February 27, 2012. at AIRYOGA, Fabrikstrasse 10, 8005 Zurich.

Saturday February 25, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.:
This session will explore the theme of Posture and Focus as it relates to yoga and meditation. Josh will guide you through a deep and relaxing Yin Yoga session focusing on the spine and finish with a period of seated Insight Meditation.

Sunday morning, February 26, 2012 from 8:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.:
This session will examine the theme of Movement and Stillness within the form of Yin Yoga and Insight Meditation. You can expect to uncover your innate capacity for peace and serenity as your hips deeply unwind.

Sunday afternoon, February 26, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.:
This session will reflect on the relationship between Awareness and Compassion. Josh will continue to build on the quieter practices of Yin Yoga and Insight Meditation to experience the compassionate embrace of awareness. This Yin sequence will address the upper body, with specific attention to Heart opening.

The workshop is suitable for yoga practitioners of all levels and traditions.

Josh teaches in English.

Burn Out, Stress and Yoga – Breathe, Relax, Transform
On Saturday afternoon, March 3, 2012 AIRYOGA instructor Adrian Wirth and Paola Deprez will adress the theme Burn Out and Stress from a yogic perspective, and offer healthier and more conscious ways to confront the challenges of daily life.

Yoga is a holistic science of human nature, which teaches us how we can better understand our bodies and minds. By reconnecting to our bodies, listening to our breath and by observing our fears, expectations and desires, it is possible to recognize and ultimately transform unhealthy and unsustainable patterns of behavior.

In this three-hour workshop, you will learn and practice simple breathing techniques, bodily exercises and Yoga Nidra, so that deep relaxation on the physical and mental level can be experienced. The participants will receive written documentation and a Yoga Nidra CD, so they can practice the exercises at home. The full benefits of these “Yoga Tools” learned will be realized through regular practice and implementation in everyday life. In the long term you will develop the awareness necessary to listen to yourself and respond to your needs.

After completing his studies in Environmental Science, Adrian Wirth increasingly grappled with the importance of a person's mind and psyche for the health of the individual. His knowledge of the natural sciences flow into his work, as well as personal experience from yoga, Buddhist meditation and from shamanic traditions. An accurate and attentive practice is important for him, while maintaining a sense of humor.
Adrian has been following the yogic path since 2002. He uses Yoga together with other techniques to explore and heal body, mind and spirit.

Paola Deprez, PhD, was a successful researcher with many awards, fully dedicated to her career, until in 2003 the first symptoms of a Burn Out appeared. For some time she ignored them until her whole system crashed, and ended up having to take medications and follow intense therapy to overcome the overwhelming symptoms. But it was only after she started to reconnect with her body with Yoga and Tai Chi that she could come out of the depression. Step by step she started to focus her life in a different direction and found the strength to change her life.
Today Paola is finishing her Yoga Teacher Training, practices Buddhist meditation and is mother of a almost 3 year old son. She is determined to use her experience to help people with stressful lives to reconnect with their inner truth and lead a balanced life. In her enthusiastic and humorous speeches she combines her deep scientific knowledge with the spiritual wisdom of many traditions in a very clear way.

The „Burn Out, Stress and Yoga“ Workshop with Adrian Wirth and Paola Deprez will take place on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at AIRYOGA, Fabrikstrasse 10, 8005 Zurich.

Restorative Yoga Workshop with Claudia Garati
On Saturday afternoon, March 17, 2012 AIRYOGA teacher Claudia Garati invites all to her 3-hour workshop to experience the restorative aspects of Yoga on body, mind and spirit. Come and experience a rejuvenating practice that allows for stillness and deep relaxation.

One of the most beneficial aspects of a yoga practice is learning how to rest. Restorative Yoga takes us deep inside to connect with our own creativity and helps heal the effects of chronic stress.

This workshop will include a bit of physical practice, and will primarily focus on the restorative aspects of yoga - breath, awareness, and kindness to harmonize body, breath, mind and spirit.
Most of the postures (asanas) will be done in a passive manner with the support of blankets, blocks and other props. You will have an opportunity to linger peacefully in these soothing and well-supported poses with gentle hands-on adjustments, candle-light and other goodies.

Claudia Garati grew up in Switzerland. She started practicing Hatha Yoga in 2000. After moving to New York, she enrolled in YogaWorks certified 500-hour Teacher Training program and completed it as a certified yoga instructor (Yoga Alliance RYT500). Claudia further studied in New York and San Francisco with ISHTA Yoga founder Alan Finger, Mark Whitwell, Bridget Shields, and with Restorative Senior Teacher Sara Tirner. After 3 years in the US Claudia moved back to Switzerland in 2008. Since then she teaches Hatha- and Restorative Yoga classes at AIRYOGA Zurich.
To Claudia yoga means both statics and dynamics, which are energetically in balance. In her classes she focuses on proper alignment to guarantee both safety and freedom. Her aim as a teacher is to allow the students to find their breath and consequently become present in each asana and in the moment.

The Restorative Yoga Workshop with Claudia Garati will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at AIRYOGA, Oberdorfstrasse 2, 8001 Zurich.

This workshop is suitable for Yoga practitioners of all levels and traditions.

Claudia teaches in German and English.

The cost is Fr. 90.-

Please reserve your space via E-mail to zuerich@airyoga.com. Space is limited.

Inside Flow Workshop with Young-Ho Kim
Experience the successful teacher trainer from South Corea first hand during his two workshop sessions on March 24, and 25, 2012.

„It’s only Yoga“ – this is Young-Ho Kim's catch phrase, with which he fascinates yoga practitioners worldwide.
Inner balance through intensive physical challenges is his credo which he communicates on whatever stage of the world he is wanted as a presenter and trainer. A living proof of Young-Ho’s knowledge and success are the countless yoga teachers that have studied edge-leading yoga knowledge from both the east and west.
In his classes, Young-Ho communicates light-heartedly and compassionate the basic and meaningful things in life. Besides physically challenging classes philosophical and meditative parts are present. Like Yoga itself, the only constant factor in Young-Ho’s style is change. He is a student of Life who spices up his style by any and every ingredient that inspires him.

Born and grown up in South-Korea, the Korean Martial Art Taekwondo, Zen-Buddhism and other Asian forms of movement and energy have been Young-Ho Kim’s companions ever since he was a child. Today he is a teacher and trainer in Intensive Yoga, Zen-Gymnastics and mental Balance.
In 2007 Young-Ho founded the Yogastudio „Inside Yoga“ in Frankfurt. He is also Founder of the „Inside Academy“, where hundreds of future yoga teachers trust in his edge-leading knowledge.
For more information please also check-out Young-Ho’s website under www.meister-kim.de

Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 2:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m.: Inside Flow
This section is inspired by Vinyasa Flow and unites tradition with a contemporary approach. Some sequences of Vinyasa Flow are executed with contemporary music and a suitable theme in order to form a perfect „symphony“. As already Darwin used to say, all is constantly in evolution – even Yoga! Come and witness this evolution.

Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Hips - Let go and be happy
No matter what our nationality, gender or age, we all want to be happy. One of the main causes of suffering is being too attached to the past or future. The key to happiness is to let go and focus on the present instead. There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way. When we practise yoga, we can practise the way of happiness. Sometimes we suffer, because our muscles may cramp up in a positionv- but tension and the fear of letting go causes us even more pain.
This hip-opening class is very cleansing and detoxifyng. Loosen up the tension in your hips, so you can relax deeply and enjoy your Savasana.

Both classes cover 90% asana and 10% lecture.

The workshop is recommended for all levels, although basic knowledge is recommended.

Young-Ho teaches in German and English.
The cost is Fr. 160.- for both sessions, or Fr. 90.- per session.
