Yoga & the Re-Enchantment of the World - A Workshop with Gabriel Halpern
Join Gabriel as he teaches sequences learned at the foot of the Master in Pune, India. If you have never been to the yogic motherland and had a chance to study with BKS Iyengar, a great way to experience his transmission is through the genius of his sequences. Poses put together with a theme can have a major impact on one’s experience. Rather than a random smorgasbord of postures, a carefully chosen process of unfolding conveys the message of yoga: harmony and skill in action, inner calm coupled with greater clarity and focus, and a heart filled with love and compassion.
Gabriel Halpern is a veteran teacher who ignites the fire of aspiration not only to your asana practice, but to your spiritual life as well. He was named by both ‚Sonima’ and ‚Yoga Journal’ as one of the most influential teachers to shape yoga in America and has been teaching and studying for over forty years. He is well known for his zeal and humor, weaving the alchemy and art of practice with the mystical leanings of myth and storytelling.
Gabriel is the founder of Yoga Circle in Chicago. His website is http://yogacircle.com/portfolio_page/gabriel/
Gabriel Halpern will lead this workshop from September 8, to September 10, 2017
at AIRYOGA, Fabrikstrasse 10 in 8005 Zurich.
Friday, September 8, 2017
from 8:30am to 11:30am: Master Class - Standing Poses & Hip Openers
Hip and groin openers prepare the legs for standing poses which are the base of the system.
from 1:30pm to 5:30pm: Yoga Therapeutics - Back Care Basics
Back pain sufferers take heart! Come and find relief and discover new options for your home practice. Whether you have general backache, stiffness, or soreness in your upper spine, scoliosis, SI joint dysfunction, or sciatica, this workshop will teach you how to relax. Yoga poses traction the spine. Once the spine elongates and decompresses, ease of motion is restored, as is free and easy breathing. You’ll go home knowing how to set up simple poses that alleviate discomfort and get a new lease on life.
Saturday, September 9, 2017
from 8:00am to 10:00am: Master Class - Backbends, Forward Bends & Core Power
Extension and flexion of the spine is to be balanced by abdominal and pelvic strength.
from 2:00pm to 5:00pm: Yoga Therapeutics - Hips & Knees
One startling discovery is that pain in the knees is often referred there from the hips. Consistent yoga practice confers two benefits: looser hips and flexible knees. Stiffness and immobility can become a thing of the past. Yogis claim that increasing circulation and oxygenation to any body part renews its life. For students with special needs, yoga has ways of helping injuries recover from trauma and heal more quickly.
Sunday, September 10, 2017
From 8:30am to 10:30am: Master Class - Pratyahara, Mudra & Pranayama
Guided relaxation (Savasana) precedes control of the breath. Through postural gestures (Mudras) we activate, distribute, and retain the life force (Pranayama) in reclining and seated poses.
from 2:00pm to 5:00pm: Yoga Therapeutics - Neck & Shoulders
Gravity can have a devastating affect on our bodies over time. It is common to see people with sagging, caved-in chests, accompanied by rounded or hunched backs. All of this is unnecessary and reversible with a consistent application of yoga. Opening the frontal chest alone does wonders for restoring vitality and deep breathing. Add to that relaxing the back muscles and you will change the way you stand and appear to the world.
This workshop is open to people of all ages, stages and constitutions.
Gabriel teaches in English.
