Meet your Teachers

Maria Pountou (Teacher Training Director)
Asana, Alignment, Anatomy & Physiology, Sequencing, Teaching Methodology & Diadctic, Pranayama/Breath Work/Kriya
Maria has been a core teacher at AIRYOGA for ten years. Originally from Athens, she completed a 500-hour training programme in New York City, after which she became a certified E-RYT yoga teacher.
She is renowned for her creative sequencing and anatomically sound approach. In her classes, she combines the self-awareness of yoga with the strength and precision principles of modern sports science mobility training. Her lectures are characterised by expressiveness and intelligence.
In 2008, Maria moved to New York City to pursue her interests in fashion. There, she met yoga masters such as Dharma Mittra, who trained her to become a 500-hour yoga teacher. Driven by her passion for anatomy and her meticulous attention to detail, Maria embarked on an additional 500-hour training programme with Tiffany Cruikshank. This programme involved in-depth studies of the spine, hips, and shoulders; myofascial release; Chinese medicine; and all the fundamental components of anatomy. Anatomical clarity and creative flow form the basis of Maria's teaching.
She combines yoga, flexibility and strength in a creative and therapeutic way, encouraging her students to develop mindfulness and endurance in their practice. Maria also helps her students to discover and expand their physical potential with intelligence, discipline and a sense of fun.
In addition to her work as a yoga teacher and trainer, Maria is a certified personal trainer in accordance with the standards of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She has also established herself as an expert in Kinstretch and FRC mobility, demonstrating her profound understanding of the mechanics of movement.
