Ashtanga Yoga Workshop with Chiara Castellan
The reason why people think of Ashtanga Yoga as a merely physical practice of asanas is because that is what can be seen. Real yoga is what we cannot see.
Explore Nadi Shodana - the energeticand mystical world of Ashtanga Yoga. Nadi Shodana is the name given to the Second Series of the Ashtanga Yoga system and it is also the name of a Pranayama exercise. Nadi Shodana means purification of the energy channels that balance and prepare the body to deepen your practice.
In this workshop, we will explore the connection of Prana - also known as vital life energy - and the cleansing and strengthening of the nervous system through asanas and pranayama. The afternoon will give an overview of the practice of the Second Series and a detailed exploration of its asanas. They combine deep back-bending, twisting, hip-opening and balancing postures and are designed to strengthen our entire body and nervous system.
We will explore some of these poses and look at the principles of opening the heart while keeping a strong foundation in backbending, introducing different techniques to open the hips and get our leg behind our head while still protecting the knees and learning how to balance on our forearms. We will approach these postures with intelligence, playfulness and awareness of the physical and energetic alignment principals. Pranayama and meditation form the basis for a deeper immersion.
This workshop makes the challenging postures of the Second Series accessible and approachable to all practitioners. Regardless of whether or not you are an Ashtanga practitioner, this is an opportunity to take your practice to the next level. The inspired beginner will discover easy, fun and approachable techniques to some of Ashtanga yoga’s most challenging postures - while senior practitioners will find new techniques to bring more strength, grace and posture-awareness to their practice.
Again, and just like in real life, it is all about practice, practice, practice… There is no master. There is no perfection. There is only practice.
