Progressing in Pranayama, Asana and the Energy Body with Stephen Thomas
For experienced students and teachers, these five mornings are a chance to dive into a quiet, deep practice - to explore movement, stillness and to find some new, unknown edges in the body and breath. It is also a chance to cleanse and restore the energy body and fill it with vitality.
Stephen Thomas: "Understanding comes through the regular simple repetition of technique and surrender over a long period of time. Patience and endurance are therefore key ingredients. But there are special times when it is important to create a shift through an intensive, focused period of work and refinement."
In this Hatha Yoga Immersion, you will work towards a subtle refinement in the asana approach from an Energetic Perspective (as well as key alignments that liberates the pose for the individual needs), progressing in Traditional Pranayama and Internal Kriyas. Longer meditations and dharma readings each day will create space and insight which supports the physical work.
There will be clear direction on modifying and balancing the practices to match your needs so that personal evolution can take place.
Each day builds progressively and equal emphasis will be given on the dynamic and physical practices as well as the subtle and silent forms (Mudra, Mantra, Bandha, Pranayama are the essence of Hatha and will be explored in depth). The program will look at the practices in a holistic way including reviewing some philosophical perspectives to better understand our approach on and off the mat.
Stephen Thomas is an experienced Yoga teacher and practitioner. He leads Teacher Trainings, Workshops and Immersions across Asia and Europe. His teaching is deeply rooted in the traditional Yoga practices of Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation. His philosophical background is influenced by studies in the Classical systems of Yoga Philosophy as well as Tibetan Buddhism and Tantra.
Stephen studies directly with O.P. Tiwari of Kaivalyadham, India - a living master in the science of Pranayama. He blends this with his ongoing studies in Asana, Nutrition, Ayurveda, Philosophy and the varied modern evolutions of Yoga.
Stephen Thomas will conduct this Hatha Yoga Immersion from Monday, January 15, to Friday, January 19, 2018 at AIRYOGA, Fabrikstrasse 10, 8005 Zurich – each morning from 7:45am to 11:45am, with a short tea break in the middle.
Due to the intensity and content, there is an expectation of maturity in the practice of Asana, Pranayama and Meditation. It is not a suitable course for beginners.
The course is progressive and intended to be taken as a whole.
Stephen teaches in English.
The course fee is Fr. 380.- for the entire immersion. A small course manual is included.
