Patanjali’s Yogasutra – A Workshop with Ralph Skuban
This two-day intensive seminar will give a comprehensive overview of the structure and content of the yogasutra, maybe the most important text of yoga. We will get to know it through different key topics, learn about it’s background which is rooted in the Samkhya philosophy, and connect it to our everyday life.
It will become evident that Patanjalis’ Yogasutra is not a theory detached from life, but rather a very practical guide, not just for a good Yoga practice, but more importantly for a good life and inner growth. Patanjali ingeniously connects seemingly modern psychology with a free and timeless spirituality.
After a general introduction we will focus on the following questions: What kind of text do we have in front of us? What is it about? What is its structure? We will then dive into the following topics:
- What is Patanjali's understanding of the term Yoga?
- What are the practical teachings of the Yogasutra to reach the state of Yoga?
- What is Samadhi?
- What does our mind consist of and how does our awareness work?
- The three pillars of Patanjali-Kriya-Yoga
- Practice: Yoga Nidra- guided deep relaxation
- What are the Kleshas and why does the world exist?
- The eight elements of Yoga
- On the Siddhis and the Energy Body
- Practice: Pranayama and Yoga Nidra
