Spring Awakening - A Weekend Yoga Retreat with Elisa Malinverni at Sutra House

All cultures view spring as a time of renewal, regeneration and of vital strength returning.
After the winter, which is usually marked by an outer and inner withdrawal, and with the longer days comes now the time to move and to step into the light again. It’s the time for new plans, new acquaintances and fresh courage. And sometimes this new drive also causes us to tire quickly. Or the wintry cold is stuck in our bones and we call it spring fatigue.

The new awakening in nature is an ideal moment in time to plant seeds for us personally and to set an intention for the year to come. After staying still so much during winter, movement, breath, mantra and meditation help us come to life again on all levels, physically, energetically and emotionally. A grounding practice balances our airy, exuberant spring fever and brings back focus, centeredness and life force.

This is a retreat for regeneration and to air ourselves out after the cold season.
Small rituals will help create space for the new and pave the way for transformation.

The morning practice consists of a meditation, Pranayama and mantra session, followed by a concise session of warming and dynamic Yoga Asana, to invigorate the whole system.
In the afternoon a blend of Yin Yoga, gentle Pranayama and Yoga Nidra ensures moments of rest on all levels. Sharing circles and rituals, inspired by the Native American traditions, form little landmarks throughout our retreat.

To participate in this yoga weekend, basic yoga experience is recommended.
Elisa will teach in German.

The Yoga Retreat ‘Spring Awakening’ will be offered from Thursday afternoon, March 24, through Sunday noon, March 27, 2022 at Sutra House in Riehen near Basel.

The Teacher
Even as a child, Elisa Malinverni felt that she was able to express her heart's essence through the body and movement. After decades on the dance floor and after her university graduation, she moved to New York. First she only took yoga classes to recover from her rigorous dance routine. But she realized quickly that she was more at ease in this new world, which encouraged self-reflection and compassion. In 2009 she completed her first teacher training with OM Yoga New York.
After she moved back to Switzerland, she settled down in Zurich, where she taught for AIRYOGA and continued her yoga education. After a year of teaching in Taiwan, she returned to Berne, her hometown, where she has been living and teaching ever since.
Elisa's influences come from her mentor of many years, Stephen Thomas, and from her yin yoga teachers Sarah Powers, Josh Summers and Mirjam Wagner, and also from her soulsister Manuela Peverelli. Her teaching is sophisticated and smart, but always a chance to pause and connect with oneself.
In 2009 Elisa founded WOMB :: Way of the Mother Berne. Here she specializes in assisting women as they face the transformation of pregnancy and early motherhodd. Her focus is also on yin yoga and personal growth, with the ides of becoming a good mother/father to oneself.

The Sutra House
The Sutra House in Riehen above Basel in Switzerland has been designed by the Basel architect Nicolas Hünerwadel in close collaboration with AIRYOGA teacher Stephen Thomas and opened beginning 2020. A sanctuary for contemplation and connection, the space consists of an old, converted part and a modern new building elegantly connected to it. Eight individually designed rooms and one suite of 50m2 offer space for up to 20 guests.
The spacious yoga room on the ground floor, the sky-lit meditation room under the high roof with large open views to the east and west for sunrise and sunset as well as the gathering/salon room with fireplace form the core zones of the house. You can also relax in the quiet garden, on the terrace or in the cosy library or enjoy the heated outdoor pool, the sauna, steam bath or a massage. For a walk in the green, the forest is just a few minutes away.
The Sutra House is a heart- and soulful piece of architecture, a unique place that will make your stay a lasting experience.
