Mysore Style self-practice is the traditional, lineage based method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as developed by guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, of Mysore, South India. It is a unique and powerful way of developing a yoga practice where individual growth is valued and honoured and all students from beginners to advanced practitioners learn side by side. Michael Hamilton

Michael Hamilton is a dedicated student of yoga and vipassana meditation. He delights in sharing his enthusiasm for these ancient practices by teaching yoga classes, workshops, retreats and intensives upon invitation.
He was born in Cape Town, South Africa where he started studying martial arts at the age of six, leading to an interest in body practice supported by eastern philosophy and meditation. After studying art, art history, philosophy and English literature at university, his interests turned to studies in the ancient wisdom traditions of India, in particular Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta, which led to time spent in India and North America immersed in Yoga, Zen meditation and darshans with Advaita teachers.
He received permission to teach Ashtanga yoga from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois of Mysore India, and currently studies yoga with Richard Freeman and Doug Keller.
After the passing of his Zen teacher Daido Loori Roshi, vipassana meditation in the lineage of Mahasi Sayadaw became his focus. Currently meditation studies and deep contemplative practice forms the foundation of his teachings on yoga and its integration into our daily lives. With an eye for detail and alignment he conducts workshops internationally emphasizing the internal practice of yoga through mindfulness. Michael teaches in English.

Miriam Stieger

As a student of both psychology and yoga, Miriam is fascinated by the interplay of body and mind and of conscious and unconscious aspects of awareness. Through Yoga and Meditation, she finds spaces leading to the gift of insight, the healing of mental wounds and the refinement of conscious perception. 
She has learned the Ashtanga Practice from her primary teachers Michael Hamilton and Eddie Stern. Their firm, yet very gentle way of being continues to inspire her. For Miriam, Yoga means to reunite oppositions and to be more present with the unfolding of inner experience. She teaches in German and English.

Annette Bernath
Annette Bernath

Annette lives in Zurich and works for a Non-Profit in the area of Fair Trade. Doing sports and diving into a good book have always been her favorite activities to counter-balance her hectic work life. Reading and movement are two important aspects of Annette’s daily life.
In 2015, she completed the 300-hour Advanced Teacher Training with Stephen Thomas, and in 2017 an additional Advanced Teacher Training with Michael Hamilton, both at AIRYOGA. In addition to her daily meditation and Mysore practice, Annette has attended many workshops and immersions, as well as enriching retreats, which have provided an opportunity to dive deep into the world of yoga.
Annette believes in the importance of living yoga ‘off the mat’ and the integration of yoga into everyday situations. Be it at work or at home, Annette constantly aims to consciously step back and take on the role of the observer before reacting.
She teaches rather dynamic classes, while giving the students enough time to experience each pose. Annette leads her classes in German.

Yoga goes far beyond the practice of asana. Simona is deeply fascinated by the infinity of yoga. In each yoga class, we are confronted with ourselves, our thought patterns and the way we act and react. This gives us the opportunity to come closer to our true selves. Discovering and connecting with this true self, playing with our own limitations and leaving the comfort zone, is a constant challenge.
For Simona, Yoga is a source of strength, calmness, clarity and freedom. Staying open, accepting the now, surrendering and learning to let go are processes that nourish us from within.
Simona has been practicing yoga since 2007. In 2011, she attended the 200-hour (YA) Teacher Training with Patricia Thielemann in Berlin. Since 2012, she has been practicing with her teacher Michael Hamilton and completed his Advanced Teacher Training in spring 2016. Currently, Simona is assisting in his Ashtanga Mysore Style Programme at AIRYOGA Zurich.
She teaches in German and English.
