Dancing in the Fires of Truth: A Weekend of Fearlessness in Practice with Anya Porter
Explore the depths of the magical and often elusive space between the lower and upper body, also known as the ‚core’. It is in this space, anatomically the diaphragm, solar plexus, and the junction between lumbar and thoracic spine, where countless thought systems identify the fire and power of will, our very capacity to live fearlessly and to manifest the deepest expression of who we truly are.
Anya Porter’s intention is to act as a conduit for her students when she takes the seat of the teacher, guiding practitioners toward physical sustainability and mental curiosity, all underlined by the buddhist concepts of compassion and interdependence. Her work is grounded in the science of anatomy and physiology and yet seeks to speak to the artist’s heart through creative sequencing and exploration of postures (her signature Breakti® class is one example of this).
Anya began teaching movement at University in 2000 while simultaneously pursuing a degree in Plant Biology, and found her way to yoga through a dance-related injury in 2003. That injury changed the course of her life, and to this day she is fascinated and intrigued by the miraculous ability for the body, mind and heart to heal. Her studies and personal practice since that time have had particular emphasis in therapeutic applications of asana, and her deep desire to know and understand the mind and heart has led her to ongoing work in buddhist meditation, psychology and philosophy. After ten years of teaching and living in New York City, Anya relocated to Zurich, Switzerland with her husband in 2015. She teaches classes, workshops and trainings at AIRYOGA Zurich, in Europe, NYC, and around the world.

Anya Porter will offer this workshop on Saturday, October 13, and Sunday, October 14, 2018 at AIRYOGA, Oberdorfstrasse 2 in 8001 Zurich.
Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm: Part 1 - Core Strength, Breath and Self-Expression
The ‚core’ is that which aligns us to our truth; it is our deepest and most inherent desire to express the depths of who we are. This first workshop will tap into recognizing and maximizing ‚core strength’ through the lens of mobilizing, stabilizing and integrating the breathing and pelvic-floor diaphragms and the structures that support them. By way of uncovering and repairing physical and mental ‚leaks’, or places where we allow our strength, our breath, or our stories to disintegrate, we will construct a deeply personal physical practice that expresses fearlessness and joy. Postures like arm balances, handstand and headstand will be the height of this exploration. A variety of options and variations will be offered so that each student may effectively tailor and express their personal narrative through asana.
Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm: Part 2 - Connection, Integration and Freedom
Building upon day one, we will take those ‚core’concepts and carry them forward, adding an emphasis of mobilizing and integrating the whole self. The standing and seated asanas unfold into an endless supply of inspiration and depth when approached beyond passive, static shapes. Each posture becomes a dance of leveraging, connecting to and then owning our personal power and thus our freedom. After an intense and rich practice of active versus passive pelvic- and hip- opening, the work will culminate in stillness and self-reflection. Breath work and mindfulness meditation become the final stratus of our foundations of fearlessness, and the bridge between the physical postures and the far more challenging postures of everyday life.
These two sessions are meant to be taken together as a whole experience, but may also be booked separately.
Anya teaches in English.
The cost is Fr. 160.- (2 sessions) or Fr. 90.- per session.
