Yoga & Chakra Psychology: 6 Days of Self-Awareness with Mira Popper

„Kriya Yoga, the schematic practice of yoga, consists of three components: tapas (austerity), svadhyaya (self-study), and Ishvara pranidhana (unshakeable faith in the guiding and protecting power of God).”
Yoga Sutras 2.1.

In this 6-day retreat, we will follow Patanjali's guide by devoting ourselves to tapassvadhyaya and Ishvara-pranidhana and by taking a profound and honest look at ourselves.

  • In the mornings, we will practice asana and pranayama to develop tapas, our inner purifying fire.
  • In the afternoons, we will dedicate ourselves to svadhyaya, self-enquiry, by getting to know the yogic chakra teaching in its connection and correspondence to Western psychology and psychotherapy. We will deal with our chakra type and its respective strengths and weaknesses. We will learn to work with the chakras, to charge them energetically, to hold and distribute energy, and to balance energy between the chakras, so that the flow of energy can connect, center and rise in the Shushumna, the void, the central channel.
  • Finally, Ishvara-pranidhana can occur when tapas has been ignated and self-enquiry has created space for what lies deep within us all: maitri (loving kindness), karuna (compassion), mudita (joy), upeksha (equanimity). Psychologically, we can understand these qualities as our deepest 'Self', but also as an expression of 'the Source' within us, and in the Buddhist sense as 'Brahmavihara, the dwelling place of the highest', to whom the 'ego'
    can devote itself.

In addition to the daily Hatha Yoga practice, our path to self-awareness includes exercises from Chakra Psychology, Yoga Psychotherapy, Energetic Psychology and Chakra Meditation.
In the evenings we will gather in the circle to share, sing, meditate and integrate our experiences. In addition, we will practice Yoga Nidra, meditative writing, and on the last evening we will free our body and mind in an ecstatic dance.

This retreat offers a holistic approach, it addresses both the physical, emotional and mental level, which can lead to deep self-awareness and inner transformation.
This week is especially suitable for yogis who wish to dive deeper into their practice and take one step further on the path of self-knowledge.
Basic knowledge of yoga is required for participation. The classes will be conducted in German. English translation if required.

This retreat will be offered from Sunday afternoon, September 1, 2019 to Friday afternoon, September 6, 2019, at the ‘Spiert Avert’ seminar house in Tschlin in the Lower Engadine.

The Teacher
Mira Popper is a full-time psychotherapist - her deepest interest belongs to the human being, its 'soul', its inner path of transformation. On her own path, Mira first studied comparative religious studies and philosophy, then practiced and taught dance and aerobics for ten years before studying psychology and body psychotherapy again at the university. When she finally found her way to yoga in 2002, she already had a love for philosophy, spirituality, psychology, healing and transformation through our best friend, the body. In yoga, she found everything united in a new and unique way.
Mira has been practicing yoga for 16 years now and has combined psychotherapy and yoga in YPT yoga psychotherapy for 10 years. The Institute for YPT was founded in 2017 and today she trains psychologists in yoga psychotherapy YPT.

The Village and the Seminar House
Tschlinis located in the Lower Engadine, sunny and far away from mass tourism above the Inn valley at 1500 m.a.s.l. The village has largely retained its original character. Its inhabitants are very innovative in various areas of sustainable management, for example with the label ‚Bun Tschlin’. Next to the seminar house you can find the well-known Girun Alpine Brewery, where master brewer Florian Geyer produces high-class beers.
The 'Spiert Avert' seminar house of the ‚Offener Geist’ cooperative is located on the upper end of the village. The typical Engadine farmhouse was renovated and generously enlarged in 2018/2019. On the terrace in front of the house you can enjoy the morning sun and a direct view of the mountains. The group room is 80m2, it offers a Swedish stove, a larch wood floor, a room height of almost 5 meters and a magnificent view. In the basement, there is another group room and a sauna.

In the new annex, there are two rooms with six comfortable berths each. The old part of the house offers two renovated double rooms. In addition, there are three double rooms in another, beautifully renovated Engadine house, which also belongs to the cooperative. If you are looking for more privacy or comfort, you can book single or double rooms at the nearby Hotel Macun
The cuisine at ‚Spiert Avert’ is vegetarian and follows sustainable criteria: regional, seasonal and organic whenever possible.
