Introduction to Buddhism & Meditation with Michael Hamilton & Sabine Glück

This course is intended for all yogis and contemplatives interested in having an overview into the main ideas found within the different Buddhist traditions, their development, and their practices.

We will use a time line to follow the development of the main schools, often referred to as the three vehicles, in order to trace their development, their main orientations and the practices associated with them.
Some of the main tenets will be examined that bind them together, such as the four noble truths, the universal characteristics of phenomena and the three jewels.

Each session will be divided into three parts: asana practice (restorative on Friday and gentle flow on Saturday and Sunday), meditation practice and a theoretical component.
For the meditation practice the “two wings of awakening” will form the axis along which we discuss the meditation practices of wisdom cultivating insight (vipassana) and compassion cultivating lovingkindness (metta).
