Yoga & Mindfulness Weekend with Natalia Knuchel & Tanja Forcellini at Sutra House

It is important to stay connected with yourself, especially in these turbulent times. To pause again and again and to take active breaks to calm the inner waves, to gain clarity, and develop resilience.

During this long weekend, we will immerse ourselves in conscious awareness of the body, take careful note of the movements of the mind, and become aware of the qualities of the heart. A loving space of self-care emerges. This holistic experience will ideally have a positive impact on overall well-being and reverberate into everyday life.

Every morning we start with mindfulness exercises and sitting in silence with Tanja. This is followed by a dynamic asana class guided by Natalia. Every breath and every movement are worthy of intimate observation; with every aspect of your Yoga practice you tread another piece of the path on your journey to yourself. 
In the afternoon, a visit to the sauna, steam room or heated outdoor pool is a great way to relax your muscles and unwind. The program also deliberately includes enough free time for walks or a visit to a nearby museum, so that many aspects come into play that promote self-care and help regenerate body, mind and soul.
In the evening, we find stillness and depth with breathing exercises and a gentle practice with the releasing quality of restorative postures from Yin Yoga. 
After a nourishing vegetarian dinner, we end the day with meditation and good night inspiration.  

This extended Yoga and Mindfulness weekend allows yoga beginners and experienced yogis alike to take an active break from everyday life - to pause, and explore body, mind, and soul through Yoga. It is aimed at all those who would like to holistically refine and enrich their practice and integrate insights from it into their everyday life.

All classes will be taught in German, alternating between Natalia (Yoga classes) and Tanja (Meditation, Mindfulness, and Breathwork). Both teachers are fluent in English and German, for questions or exchange outside of class times. 

This Yoga & Mindfulness Weekend will be offered from Thursday afternoon, June 3rd, through Sunday noon, June 6th, 2021 at Sutra House in Riehen near Basel in Switzerland.

The teachers
Natalia Knuchel completed her Theatre and Dance education in Zurich after her Primary school teacher education. She then moved to Amsterdam to deepen her studies in contemporary dance at the SNDO (School for New Dance Development), consequently performing in dance theater productions in Germany and Switzerland.
Throughout her journey as a professional dancer, Natalia has been influenced and inspired by Yoga Asanas, Body Mind Centering, Contact Improvisation and Thai Chi. Her desire to share the gift of Yoga with others led her to attend the Teacher Training at AIRYOGA with Stephen Thomas in 2013. Within the whole spectrum of dance, meditation and yoga, Natalia has been particularly influenced by David Zambrano, Frey Faust, Simone Aughterlony, Denise Lampart, Ivan Wolfe, Doug Keller, Anya Porter, Manuela Peverelli and Stephen Thomas. Currently, Natalia is continuing her education in anatomy with Tiffany Cruikshank of Yoga International.
Natalia’s classes are dynamic and powerful. She emphasizes precise alignment and a steady connection to the breath. Natalia offers verbal and hands-on adjustments to support her students in a gentle manner. Her classes help students find balance on and off the mat and integrate it in their daily lives.

Tanja Forcellini discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga during one of her journeys to the Far East in 1999. Yoga has led her to find answers to the many questions she has encountered on her personal life journey - answers that lay hidden deep within herself. Tanja attended the Yoga Teacher Training in 2004 at Centered Yoga in Asia, where she received certification as a Yoga instructor recognized by the Yoga Alliance. After her pregnancy in 2008, she also attended the Perinatal Yoga Training at Birthlight UK. After that time, life guided her more and more towards silence, and silence moved her from Yoga to Meditation. The loving and conscious contact with, and careful perception of one's own body are the focus of Tanja's classes, as well as the connection of breath and movement. In addition, she completed the Hormone Balance Teacher Training with Salome Noah. Tanja regularly attends trainings on mindfulness meditation and resilience and is currently in training as an energetic practitioner with Andrea Stäger. The Sutra House
Opened beginning of 2020, the Sutra House is a space for Meditation, Yoga, Nutrition, Therapy and Healing Arts, a sanctuary where one can re-connect to the inner life and explore the “nature of things”.  
Set into a forested hillside near above the Rhine valley and village of Riehen, Switzerland, the Sutra House has been designed by the Basel architect Nicolas Hünerwadel in close collaboration with AIRYOGA teacher Stephen Thomas. The space consists of an old, converted part and a modern new building elegantly connected to it.
The spacious Yoga room on the ground floor, the sky-lit meditation room under the high roof with large open views to the east and west for sunrise and sunset as well as the gathering/salon room with fireplace form the core zones of the house.
Besides Yoga and healthy food, a heated outdoor pool, a sauna, a steam bath, massages, walks in the forest and a lot of coziness await you in this beautifully decorated house with a crackling fireplace and a library, with a great selection of books on Yoga and spirituality. During our stay the Sutra House with its own sauna, steam bath and pool is exclusively at our disposal.

Up to 17 participants can be accommodated in double and single rooms. Shared rooms on request. The tastefully furnished rooms are all flooded with light and have their own bathroom.

The maximum number of participants will be adjusted to the currently valid FOPH-measures at the time of the retreat.

Daily Schedule (subject to modifications)
7:15 a.m.: Tea and snack
7:30 to 8:30 a.m.: Mindfulness and Meditation with Tanja
8:45 to 10:15 a.m.: Dynamic Yoga with Natalia
10:30 a.m: Brunch 
afterwards free time (resting, swimming in the pool, sauna, steam bath, massage, museum, walking etc.)
3:30 p.m.: Tea and light snack 
4:30 to 6:15 p.m.: Breathwork und Yoga
6:30 p.m.: Dinner
8:15 to 8:45 p.m.: Meditation and good night inspiration 

Cost per person
CHF 1090.- with accommodation in a single room, with private shower/toilet
CHF 950.- with accommodation in a double room, with private shower/toilet
CHF 790.- with accommodation in a shared room, with private shower/toilet (on request)

Massages / Treatments
Sutra House offers various massages. In addition, Tanja offers individual sessions in energy work during this weekend. These are not included in the price and are paid directly on site. 

Check-in / Check-out
Participants can check in as from 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 3rd, 2021. All participants are expected at 4:00 p.m. at the latest for the welcome round, the first Yoga class and the following opening dinner. 
On Sunday, June 6, 2021 the retreat ends after the morning Yoga class and brunch; latest release of the rooms is at 12:30 p.m. The pool, sauna and steam bath will be available for the group until 2:00 p.m. on that day.

The Sutra House in Riehen near Basel is easily accessible by car and public transport. Participants will receive directions on how to get there.

Changes in the program and daily schedule may apply.

If the teacher is unable to lead the retreat due to unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to replace the teacher with an equivalent one. 

Insurance is your own responsibility. We strongly recommend a travel insurance including coverage of cancellation costs and travel incidents.
The facilitator/the teacher shall not be held liable for any damage to, or loss of, property or injury to persons. The participant waives any claim against the facilitator/the teacher for any such loss, damage, injury, or death.
