A Journey into the Heart of our own Being with Michael Hamilton

„I wish I could show you
When you are lonely and in darkness
The astonishing light
Of your own being.“
Hafiz

The subtle shift from increasingly gravitating towards glimpses of self-knowledge while pursuing paths of self-discovery, to consciously turning it into the central and guiding force in one’s life, is a major and momentous evolution within the human heart. It heralds the waking up to self-liberation, when we take up the journey to the source of our being.

This beautiful and meaningful undertaking consists, as most journeys do, of delights and disappointments, of highways and byways. More importantly, it’s not a giving up on life, but a discovery of its fullness, its richness and the power of the human mind and heart when its focused.

Please join Michael in this journey through readings of poets, wild yogis, dreamers, seekers and vagabonds, to listen to their songs of encouragement to help us along our paths in our increasingly demanding world. We take their intentions to help, their advice on their own struggles, and their relentless love of practice as our guiding light for connecting to source through yoga, breathwork, readings and meditations for mental and emotional support and contemplations on impermanence, non-self, resources, heart qualities and visualizations.

Good Friday, March 29, 2024
from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon: Setting Intention

Introduction and mixed levels asana class with breath work and meditations on intention.
Without clarifying our intent, we cannot clearly bring into focus what is important for us and what we can do to deepen our practice in a sustainable way. Here we will follow a few structured steps to help us to find that which is what our heart yearns for.

from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm: Finding our Resource

Introducing a personalized resource with meditations using visualizations. This class will have some restorative asanas and a guided yoga nidra practice.
We all have the capacity for connecting to an inner wellspring of wholesome wisdom energy. Being shown how our own deepest yearning can transform into this resource, from where we can work with challenges and difficulties, opens the doors to discovering our rejected, repressed and disowned aspects that are also a part of us, and are desperate to be seen, discovered and reintegrated.

Saturday, March 30, 2024
from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm: Working with difficult Emotions

Hatha style asana class with a focus on heart opening postures with contemplations and meditations from the 18th century Tibetan yogi Karma Tschagme, who delineated five ways that we can work with difficult emotions.

Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024
from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm: Identifying the Hindrances

A stronger vinyasa style class that’s experimental and fun, followed by breath work and contemplations of mental states. Buddhism’s conscious approach to identifying and classifying unwholesome mental states are well known and used especially within the vipassana traditions with their roots in early Buddhism. We will examine here how the observation of wholesome and unwholesome mental states can set the basis for the development of the equanimous mind.

Michael Hamilton is a meditation and yoga practitioner as well as a transpersonal therapist. The discovery of Buddhism in his twenties brought about dramatic life changes resulting in his departure from the west to the east and long years of studies in yoga and Buddhism in Asia. After discovering satipatthana meditation with its direct application of mindfulness to progressive stages of development, he started studies in short- and long-term retreat formats with Sayday U Vivekananda.

Michael’s approach combines modern methods developed in psychology with the skillful means developed in ancient Buddhist teachings on wisdom, in order to better facilitate development and healing in individuals and small groups.

He is deeply grateful to all those that have helped and guided him on his path, particularly Daido Roshi for his acts of kindness, Vivekanada and Baddhamanika for their endless patience, Richard Freeman and Mary Taylor for their insights into approaching practice, Doug Keller for therapeutic body awareness and Wolfgang Erhard and Lama Lhündrup for awakening the Bodhisattva spirit within.

Michael lives with his wife Sabine Glück in Ticino, Switzerland.
