A Journey through the different layers of our body with Céline Ryf
“You have no need to travel anywhere – journey within yourself.
Enter a mine of rubies and bathe in the splendor of your own light.”
Rumi
Join us for a journey through the different layers of the body, called koshas, from the gross to the subtle and all the way to our essence. Asana and pranayama balance the physical and energetic bodies so that we can better focus in meditation and let go in relaxation.
The practice will be accompanied by sounds, mantras and essential oils as they all work on the very subtle levels – an ideal practice to find inner and outer balance before the year comes to an end.

The yogis believe that our body has not only one, but five different layers (koshas). Alongside the gross physical body, we also have an energetic, an emotional or mental body and a body of wisdom. Those are the subtle sheets. Our fifth body is our spiritual body or our essence or true nature and is covered by all the other sheets.
In the yoga practice, we work with all layers in order to pierce through to our essence. The asana practice works mostly on the physical body, breathing influences the energetic sheet, meditation works on our mental and emotional field while study of scripture allows us to access the deep Vedic wisdom and develop discernment. The different layers are in constant interaction and influence each other.
A practice that touches all the different layers including the spiritual one, is the chanting of mantras or transcendental sounds. Sound is connected to the element ether and touches us on a very deep and subtle level. Sound can bring about a specific memory and corresponding emotion in an instance. It is said in scripture that sound doesn’t only cleanse our body and mind, but also removes the dust from our heart.
